Priscila Oliveira de Lima
Priscila (p.oliveiradelima@uq.edu.au) studied Biochemistry at the Federal University of São João del-Rei in Brazil. During her bachelor’s degree, she developed a project to evaluate the cytotoxic potential of the eosinophil cationic protein as well as digoxin on cell lines derived from human oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). She is currently undertaking her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute based at the Translational Research Institute, one of Australia's biggest immunology centres. She has completed a global first investigator initiated contract testing the lab’s combination therapy in CT26.WT tumour-bearing BALB/c mice. This work has been reviewed by Cell and resulted in further engagement of our laboratory with this global pharma company (commercial confidential). She has also established a novel preclinical mouse model of perineural invasion of cutaneous SCC of the head and neck. The aim of her current project is to humanise the NSG mouse model to allow preclinical testing of monoclonal antibody therapies for perineural invasion. Ultimately, demonstration of therapeutic efficacy in this model will provide data to support a clinical trial application.
